We Strike Together

At the height of theĀ  Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020, many people were out of work and unable to pay their rent. The We Strike Together campaign was a direct response to the calls for eviction moratoriums and rent cancelation for the working poor and communities of color. The We Strike Together digital campaign was spearheaded by ACRE’s digital lead (myself) and consisted of a campaign microsite, interactive map, organic social media, digital ads, a scripted video, mass email, and earned media.

The strategy and organizing plans came out of a coalition of housing justice groups including the Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE), Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE), Alliance for Housing Justice, Bargaining for the Common Good (BCG), Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), Housing Justice for ALL, Jobs with Justice, PowerSwitch Action (Formerly Partnership for Working Families), People’s Action, and Right to the City.

I produced the video below and worked with editor and voice over artist, Mike Damanskis, for the final result. The script was written by author and strategic communications consultant, Anat Shenker-Osorio. The video was used as an ad placement on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Hulu.

I gathered zip codes from various protesters from all participating organizations, cleaned the data and maintained a master spreadsheet with all of the information. The below is an interactive map I created from the data and added design elements. I regularly updated the map throughout the campaign.
